Our events celebrating local food and community this summer are spread around the Raleigh Food Corridor and Downtown Raleigh throughout the day on October 8th!

WEEKEND OF PURPOSE

Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation comes together for their annual Weekend of Purpose which supports their work to empower and motivate emerging leaders to lift up their communities, their state, and their world. The Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation Weekend of Purpose is a two-day event that brings together over 500 attendees and ties together service, food, and fun to raise key funds that will support the core programs of the Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation. Attendees are encouraged to participate in various ways throughout the weekend through three distinct events.

Saturday morning

Volunteer your time to support local non-profits, farms and more. Sign up to help at Burkett Farm, Camden Street Learning Garden, Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC (Raleigh Branch), Habitat for Humanity of Durham, Martin Street Mobile Market, Method Child Development Center, SEEDS, Salvation Army of Wake County, or Tryon Road Teaching Farm. Volunteers will get a our appreciation, a limited edition shirt, and $10 discount on Party with a Purpose tickets.

Saturday night

PARTY WITH A PURPOSE POSTPONED TO SUNDAY OCT 9 @ 5PM

Supporters are invited to purchase tickets and join the Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation and some of the state's top chefs for an unforgettable evening at CAM Raleigh located in downtown Raleigh. Attendees gain the opportunity to sample dishes from 5-7 chefs complimented with a curated selection of cocktails, beer, and wine from local bars, restaurants, and wine distributors. It’s apple season! Interested in learning to preserve the fall bounty of apples all year long? We’ll show you three delicious ways and teach you the history behind these methods and some of your favorite apple varieties!

Information will cover how to preserve apples three different ways — including “snitzing”! Techniques generalize easily to other fruits! You will leave with a solid overview of how to use the water-bath canning method. We’ll send you home with a jar of apple preserves that you help make!

Join us in the Sun Sprouts Kids’ Garden to explore the plants and wildlife who call the Garden their home, buzz along the Pollinator Promenade, and daydream in the Fairy Fort. Help our gardener tend the many vegetables, fruits and flowers that grow here—and taste them too. The Sun Sprouts Kids’ Garden is open for play every day.

The Sun Sprouts Kids’ Garden encourages kids to live healthy and active lives through exploratory outdoor play, and experiencing fresh and local fruits and vegetables through all their senses. Joining the gardener in tending the space, kids learn through hands-on participation in a community setting. Sun Sprouts is a Certified Wildlife Habitat, and neighbored by a new Pollinator Garden sponsored by Burt’s Bees in the Marbles courtyard, where children can witness the power of pollinators and learn how to support them.

Come and learn about innovative urban agriculture projects that won mini-grants from the City of Raleigh’s Environmental Advisory Board and how to apply for your own grant.  Take a tour of the beautiful and historic Mordecai Gardens. Hear from Steve Cohen, the Manager of Food Policy and Programs City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, talk about his city’s exciting urban agriculture programs. Several urban agriculture demonstration booths will be hosted by the Second Saturday project of the Raleigh Food Corridor.

This year, Too Much TV Inc. will initiate the Healthy Community Initiative in effort to educate and raise awareness around the positive impact of 'Building Student Leaders'. We will challenge students to make a difference in their community by committing to a service-learning project. Students take the challenge to make a positive impact in your community. The TMT Youth Community Foundation provides meaningful after-school programs to at-risk students and students in alternative schools. The project teaches students media production, digital literacy, and exposes them to different career paths and entrepreneurship.
